Bangalore started their Indian T20 League 2023 campaign with a convincing victory over the Mumbai-based franchise on Sunday, April 2 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The stadium was full of crowd and fans looked very excited and thrilled throughout the match. Former Bangalore batter AB de Villiers was also present to witness his former franchise's opening match.

Meanwhile, during the match, de Villiers met the founder of the Isha Foundation, Sadhguru. A picture of both hugging each other went viral on social media. Sadhguru who launched the 'Save Soil' movement, was seen supporting the Faf du Plessis-led side and Bangalore's players didn't disappoint him and the fans as they thrashed Mumbai by 8 wickets.

Talking about the entire match, Asked to bat first, the five-time champions were restricted to 171 runs, courtesy of brilliant bowling performance by Bangalore bowlers, especially Mohammed Siraj and Karn Sharma as the latter took two wickets while Siraj conceded only 21 runs and also picked up a wicket in his 4 overs. Chasing the target, Bangalore openers Virat Kohli and du Plessis made Mumbai bowlers helpless and stitched a 148-run stand for the wickets and at the end Kohli finished things with a six.

I am very happy with how things went today: Virat Kohli

Kohli talked about his partnership with du Plessis in the post-match interview and said that they shifted the momentum by smashing them down with the new ball itself and making full use of the powerplay.  He also mentioned that he was very happy after winning the first match.

“Phenomenal win. Homecoming after so many years. We kept backing ourselves. Faf du Plessis went first, and I joined later. I am very happy with how things went today,” the former Bangalore captain said.

“The new ball was a bit tricky, but we shifted the momentum by taking them down with the new ball. We nullified all their intensity. The wicket was quite a nice one. We hit good areas and kept putting pressure on the bowlers,” he added.
