When former Pakistan skipper Salman Butt was suspended after his involvement in spot-fixing, his career looked as good as over. After all, he was suspended for 10 years in 2011. However, four years later when Mohammad Amir, the co-conspirator, was about to make his comeback. At that time, Butt was pardoned and his sentence was cut to four years which he already completed.
The left-hander played well in domestic tournaments such as Quaid-e-Azam One Day Cup and National T20. However, the Lahore player didn't get selected and never played for Pakistan again. A few years back, he decided to hang his boots after realizing that he might not don the national colors again. Meanwhile, the 37-year-old has made some sensational revelations about his non-selection in 2015-16.
In an interview, he recalled how he spoke to the then skipper Misbah Ul Haq. Salman claims that Haq told him about how no one on the selection committee listens to him. The former also mentioned Haq's advice to do well in department cricket
“Everyone said that it was the management’s decision. When Misbah was captain, I talked to him and he said, ‘yaar meri koi sunta hi nahi hai.’ When he was chief selector, I met him again.
He told me to perform in the department cricket. I scored 905 runs in 9 matches. I called him twice and he didn’t answer. Then I left it. I realised my performances weren’t getting valued,” Butt said in an interview with ARY News.
Inzamam Ul Haq never gave any satisfying answer: Salman Butt
The former Lahore Qalandars player in the PSL also spoke about his conversation with Inzamam Ul Haq. Butt revealed that he was asked to speak to someone influential in the Pakistan cricket.
“I asked him (Inzamam) a lot of times, but never received a satisfying answer. Sometimes, I was told, ‘yaar tum kisi bade se sifaarish karao’. But I didn’t do that.”
“If he’s saying, it must be true. It wasn’t the case when I was captain,” he added.
