MS Dhoni has retired from the international arena, he bid adieu to international cricket in 2020, but still has been one of the most talked-about cricketers in the game. Since then, Dhoni has been playing the Indian T20 League for Chennai every season. However, he hasn't really been at his best since the 2020 edition. From 2020 to 2021, he could only muster 314 runs in 30 games.

This year, after he had relinquished the captaincy role, he amassed 232 runs in 14 games at an average of 33.14, and a strike rate of 123.40. Notably, after eight games, he led Chennai again as his team needed to win every game to qualify for the playoffs. However, his leadership didn't help the team qualify for the top four and his team finished ninth in the points table.

Meanwhile, in a conversation with Cricbuzz, former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull has said that he had a conversation with the former India skipper and asked him about what the latter was going to do in a little while. Doull said that the Ranchi player was going on a short break and playing some cricket.

"I had a chat with MS Dhoni the other night after the game and the one thing I asked him about what are you going to do for the next little while?

"He (Dhoni) said I'm going to take a short break, and I'M GOING TO PLAY SOME CRICKET," Doull said.

The former pacer also revealed that Dhoni had realized that not playing the game regularly was impacting his ability to execute the basics. The cricketer-turned-commentator claims that the three-time World Championship winning skipper might play competitive cricket outside of the Indian T20 League.

"The one thing I've realised is that if I'm not playing cricket, I'm not in the game and I'm not able to maneuver the ball"

"I think we will see Dhoni play cricket outside of IPL this time."

Recently, the Chennai skipper had said that he might be part of the team next year.
