Star Pakistan batter Saud Shakeel happened to rise on the occasion in a time of crisis for Pakistan when they lost 4 wickets on the score of 73 runs in the ongoing first Test against Sri Lanka. At that moment in the match, Pakistan were struggling against the Sri Lankan bowling attack.

Shakeel, alongside Agha Salman, started the third day of the match with the team’s total score of 221 runs for the loss of 5 wickets at the end of the second day’s play. At the start of the day, Shakeel and Salman were on individual scores of 69 and 61 runs, respectively. However, Agha Salman went back to the pavilion with an individual score of 83 runs and the team’s total score of 278 runs.

It was also the first-ever double-century for Saud Shakeel in his Test career. He has scored 788 runs so far in 11 innings of 6 matches with a sensational average of 98.50, including this double-century against Sri Lanka. Apart from that, he has also scored 2 centuries and 5 half-centuries.

As for the rest of the match, the third day’s play ended with Pakistan in a good position. At stumps on Day 3, Sri Lanka were 14 runs without any loss in 3.4 overs, having Nishan Madushka and skipper Dimuth Karunaratne in the middle. Both batters are unbeaten on the individual scores of 8 and 6 runs, respectively.

Earlier in Pakistan’s first innings, Ramesh Mendis claimed a five-wicket haul for Sri Lanka, alongside Prabath Jayasuriya, who scalped three wickets. Apart from these two, Vishwa Fernando and Kasun Rajitha also picked one wicket each for Sri Lanka. The hosts are currently trailing by 135 runs in the second innings of the match.
