Indian women’s cricketer Sneh Rana’s coach Narendra Shah has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act by the Dehradun police after his audio clip got leaked where he is having an obscene conversation with a young girl cricketer. According to Hindustan Times, the young girl is a minor from Chamoli district and taking education along with cricket training in Dehradun.

Reportedly, Shah tried to commit suicide at his residence in Nehru Colony on Friday after the audio clip went viral. The cricket coach has been admitted to Doon Medical College and Hospital in Dehradun. He was also removed from the post of co-convenor of women’s cricket in CAU on Saturday. However, he still holds the position of secretary of the Chamoli district cricket association.

“We have registered a case under relevant sections of POCSO Act, 506 of the IPC and SC/ST Act. Our investigation into the matter is underway,” said Lokendra Bahuguna, in charge at Nehru Colony police station.

The spokesperson of the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand, Vijay Pratap Malla also said that the apex body of the cricket association held a virtual meeting on Saturday and then decided to remove Shah from the post of co-convenor.

“Taking cognisance of the media reports about the viral audio clip, the apex body of the state’s cricket association on Saturday convened a virtual meeting and decided to remove Narendra Shah from the post of co-convenor of the women’s cricket,” said Vijay Pratap Malla as quoted by Hindustan Times.

“Shah also holds the post of secretary of Chamoli district cricket association. We have taken action at our level and removed him from the CAU post. His removal from the post of Chamoli district association is to be decided at their level. We are yet to receive any complaint from the girl cricketer or her family against Shah. If we receive any such complaint, further action will be taken against him after an inquiry,” Malla further said.

However, Sneh Rana has not said anything about the scandal yet. The 29-year-old right-arm spinner was recently seen in action for the Gujarat Franchise in the recently ended Woman's T20 League.
