Indian star batter Prithvi Shaw had an exciting start to his cricketing career. From a young age, the stylish batter experienced success; however, he also went through some tough times. Notably, both on and off the field, his career has been hampered by criticism and controversies. It became apparent that the Mumbai-born batter was not even given a chance to appear in the upcoming Asian Games.

The 23-year-old batter has not had the stellar international career some could have hoped for when he became the youngest Indian player to score a Test century on debut. Notably, Shaw returned to the Indian team's T20I squad for the home series against New Zealand a year ago after being out of the Sri Lanka tour in 2021. But the young batter failed to get a game, and he was not picked for the West Indies tour.

There are no 'best friends' as such: Shaw

Meanwhile, the stylish right-handed batter recently appeared for his interview on Cricbuzz, where he remarked that there is no best friend concept in the Indian squad. The Delhi Capitals star also talked about the other members talking about him behind his back.

"I say things frankly. Earlier, when someone would speak to me nicely, I would open up easily. Later, I would get to know someone is saying the same things behind my back. Not once, this has happened several times. But it doesn't matter to me now. I understood on my own that this world works differently. I feel the concept of best friend has been created by us. 'He's my best friend'. A 'friend' is fine, but there are no 'best friends' as such,” Shaw told on Cricbuzz.

Now we all are colleagues, not friends: Ashwin

Veteran Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin said something similar about the relationships in the Indian camp after their loss in the World Test Championship 2021-23 final. He was asked about his support from players when he was benched during the WTC Final, and the Chennai-born cricketer revealed that Indian players are only colleagues and not friends.

“This is an era where everybody is a colleague. Once upon a time when cricket was played, all your teammates were friends. Now, they’re colleagues,” Ashwin said. Ashwin, later on, came back to the team for the first Test against West Indies and grabbed 12 wickets in the match.
