Sourav Ganguly is disappointed over the decision to sack former India women's coach WV Raman. Ramesh Powar replaced WV Raman as the head coach of the women's cricket team. The former's first task as a head coach of the team would be in June-July this year. The women's cricket team is going to play one Test, three T20Is, and three ODIs against England. The three-member Cricket Advisory Committee consisting of Sulakshana Naik, Madan Lal, and Rudra Pratap Singh interviewed around 35 applicants. Thus, the council collectively agreed on Ramesh Powar's candidature.

Former Test player Shiv Sunder Das has also been nominated as the batting coach of the women's cricket team for the forthcoming England tour. On the contrary, retired wicket-keeper batsman Abhay Sharma has been named the women's side fielding coach. Shiv Das has earlier worked with the India women's A team. He will now join head coach Ramesh Powar for the forthcoming England series planned to begin in June.

WV Raman to work with Hyderabad Cricket Association

Considering that Team India made it to the finals of the T20 World Cup 2020 under his guidance, WV Raman looked favourite to keep his position. However, the Cricket Advisory Committee opted to make a change. Thus, the council decided to bring back Ramesh Powar. The former Indian player who worked with Team India on a short-term basis in 2018.

Under Raman, the Indian cricket team played 5 ODI series and as many T20I series from December 2018 to March 2020. The Mithali Raj-led team India enjoyed much success in the 50-over format. They managed to win four out of five series. Their only series defeat came against the Proteas side at home in 2021. In the shortest format of the game, India struggled at the start, but they eventually bounced back strongly. The side also played the T20 WC final in front of a packed crowd at Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Ramesh Powar, who coached team India to the semi-final of the 2018 T20 WC, has his task cut out as the team will play against two great teams over the next five months. Talking about WV Raman, he has also received an offer to work with Hyderabad Cricket Association. The former Indian opening batsman beforehand worked with Kolkata Knight Riders, Punjab Kings (in IPL), Tamil Nadu and Bengal state teams.
