South Africa vs Australia

South Africa kept their hopes alive in the ongoing five-match ODI series against Australia as they registered an emphatic win by 111 runs in the third ODI of the series. Both teams locked horns in this match at Sedgras Park in Potchefstroom on Tuesday. The stand-in Australian skipper Mitchell Marsh won the toss and asked the hosts to bat first.

Batting first, the opening pair of skipper Temba Bavuma and his partner Quinton de Kock provided an outstanding start to the Proteas. The duo stood in the middle to stitch an amazing opening partnership of 146 runs for the first wicket in 22.5 overs before De Kock played it to David Warner off Travis Head on the individual score of 82 runs, with 10 fours and 2 sixes.

Skipper Bavuma also got trapped by Tanveer Sangha just in the next over after contributing with a half-century (57 runs, 6 fours). Other than the brilliant start, one of the major headlines of the hosts’ batting was the blistering century smashed by the star middle-order batter Aiden Markram; he played an unbeaten knock of 102 runs off just 74 balls with nine fours and four sixes.

The Proteas' innings got an excellent finish from the lower order batter Marco Jansen who scored 32 runs off just 16 balls with four boundaries and a six; he had to make his way back to the pavilion after a spectacular catch taken by Sean Abbott off Nathan Ellis in the 47th over of the first innings. On the back of these knocks, South Africa managed to post a very good total of 338 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the allotted 50 overs.

Horrific collapse for Australia after a fiery start, SA spinners dominate the contest

While chasing the target, the Aussies had a fiery start from the opening pair of David Warner and Travis Head; they scored 79 runs in just 7.5 overs till Magala got Head caught by Gerald Coetzee in a batter’s attempt to play it over the infield. Following that, there was another partnership of 78 runs for the second wicket between Warner and the skipper Mitchell Marsh on team’s score of 140 runs in 15 overs. But then happened a horrific collapse that didn’t give a second chance of a comeback to the visitors.

Eventually, the Aussies lost the next nine wickets after adding just 97 runs and got bundled up on the score of 227 runs, which resulted in a massive win for the Bavuma’s men by 111 runs.
