The Ashes is arguably the pinnacle of Test cricket. It is one of the oldest rivalries in the cricketing world. Fans from Australia and England consider winning the urn equivalent to winning a World Cup. However, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy isn't too far behind.

Over the years, the games between Australia and India have generated a lot of buzz. As these two sides have been really consistent, they have gone on to form their own rivalry. As a matter of fact, many fans have started to compare the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with the Ashes. Besides, Australia have had the Urn with them since 2017.

Australian spinner Nathan Lyon recently drew light on the same. He stated that the trophy for which India and Australia play for is slowly becoming as important as the Ashes to the cricketers in Australia. It is to be noted that the Aussies are set to tour India in the current cycle of the World Test Championship (WTC).

“It’s massive. It’s getting very similar to an Ashes series as the pinnacle series for an Australian cricketer," said Nathan Lyon, as quoted by CricTracker. He then spoke about their upcoming four-match Test series against the Indian side. He said that it is going to be a huge challenge for them.

“This series with the Test Championship on the line as well it’s going to be even more important and probably a bigger challenge. It’s about doing the basics, not getting too far ahead of ourselves and enjoying the challenge – I think that’s going to be the biggest one,” he added. However, the offie expressed his excitement over playing in India. He said that they are ready for the challenge.

“There’s no point hiding behind it. That’s one challenge we want to pride ourselves on – going out there and performing really well. This challenge is massive and it’s bloody exciting, to be honest,” said Lyon.
