India has become the first country in the space history to land on the southern pole of the moon. It is the third mission of India to moon.

In a historic achievement, India has become the first country in history to land on the southern pole of the moon. Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) Chandrayan-3 mission has successfully been executed as the Lander Module (LM) successfully landed on Wednesday, the 23rd of August. ISRO has also confirmed that the Module is propelling in the intended trajectory towards the surface of the moon.

The first deboosting operation was practised by ISRO on Friday, the 18th of August; following that, the orbit was reduced to 113km*157km.

“Chandrayaan-3 Mission: 'India, I reached my destination, and you too!': Chandrayaan-3, Chandrayaan-3 has successfully, soft-landed on the moon, Congratulations, India,” wrote ISRO in a tweet from their official Twitter handle.

Meanwhile, Indian PM Narendra Modi also joined Chandrayaan-3’s landing through a conferencing from South Africa’s Johannesburg. He is currently on a tour of South Africa for the BRICS summit, including the member countries, Brazil, Russia, and China, alongside the hosts South Africa.

Politicians hailed the scientists and ISRO's efforts in the mission

The veteran political leaders also shared their happiness and congratulated the scientists and all the individuals who were involved in this historic mission.

“This is an incredible moment of pride for all Indians! A journey that began more than six decades ago under Nehruji has brought us to the moon with #Chandrayaan3Landing! Salute to the scientists, and engineers, all who believed in a vision of hope... Jai Hind,” said the member of parliament and renowned thinker, Dr. Shashi Tharoor.

Apart from this, the Union Minister in PM Modi-led government, Jitendra Singh also wrote in his tweet on X, “While the world fantasises about the moon, we have actually felt the moon...the world dreams of the moon, and we have seen the dream getting converted into reality…sky is not the limit.”

Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee also took to her X handle to congratulate ISRO and shared her happiness on the successful landing.

“Hail Chandrayaan-3! Hail its stupendous success!! Hail ISRO!! Hail our nation's magnificent achievement in sending an exploration mission successfully to the Moon!! Our scientists have testified to the country's scientific and technological progress. India is now in the super league of space. Sincere congratulations to all the proud architects and stakeholders of the expedition.  Let us celebrate the majestic moment and pray for further advances of India in the frontier areas of knowledge and applications,”
