On 24 January 2023, team India locked horns with the Kiwis in the third and final match of the ODI series. The match took place in Indore. The home team came to this clash after winning the first two matches. While the visitors were looking to avoid a clean sweep. Rohit Sharma and his men were looking to win the match to become the number-one ranked team in the 50-over format.

Speaking of the match, Tom Latham won the toss and asked team India to bat first. India made two changes from their last playing XI. Umran Malik and Yuzvendra Chahal made the cut to the playing XI in place of Siraj and Shami. For India, the skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill came out to open the innings.

India defeated New Zealand by 90 runs in the third ODI

Both the opener gave a solid start to the team after their first wicket fell on 212 runs in 26.1 overs. Rohit Sharma put an end to his century drought after a long gap of 1100 days. He scored 101 runs off 85 balls, including nine fours and six over-boundaries. Along with him, Shubman Gill scored 112 runs off 78 balls, including 13 fours and five sixes. However, other batters failed to score big while Hardik Pandya scored 54 runs off 38 balls, including three fours and three sixes. Finally, they scored 385 runs for nine wickets in 50 overs.

For New Zealand, Blair Tickner and Jacob Duffy took three wickets each. In reply, Devon Conway and Finn Allen came out for the chase. But, Allen went for a duck off just two balls, courtesy of Hardik Pandya. But, Conway scored 138 runs off 100 balls, including 12 fours and eight sixes. Other batters managed some starts but failed to convert them into big scores. Finally, they got bundled out for 295 runs in 41.2 overs. Both Kuldeep Yadav and Shardul Thakur grabbed three wickets each.
