World Number 6, Stefanos Tsitsipas' 2023 season was a rollercoaster of contrasting fortunes. While only lifting the trophy at the Los Cabos Open, he etched his name onto the record books reaching the Australian Open final, a first for the Greek star. Despite succumbing to Novak Djokovic in the Melbourne showdown, the feat resonated throughout his year. Adding another final appearance at the Barcelona Open further underscored his consistency, albeit without the ultimate gold. It was a season of undeniable highs and tantalizing glimpses of his full potential, even if the championship drought continued.

Unfortunately, Tsitsipas' 2023 campaign took a harsh turn at the year's end. A nagging back injury forced his early retirement just three games into his ATP Finals match against Holger Rune, casting a shadow over the season's achievements. Though he attempted a comeback at the World Tennis League, the persistent injury woes kept him largely confined to the sidelines.

Glorious 2024 in Tsitsipas' sight

Now, driven by Olympic dreams and Grand Slam aspirations,Tsitsipas has set his sights on a momentous 2024. His ambition is to etch his name in Greek sporting history by claiming the nation's first Olympic tennis medal since 1896. He also yearns to finally break through and capture his maiden Grand Slam title, silencing the doubts and solidifying his place among the sport's elite.

It was while speaking to 'The National' at Etihad Arena in the UAE that Tsitsipas revealed his goals. "I want to obviously bring an Olympic medal back to my country, that is a goal of mine. I want to win a Grand Slam title, that is also a goal of mine," he said.

However, the Greek was aware that for the year to go according to plan, he would have to ensure that he is in the pink of health throughout. "For sure, in order for me to do these things I need to be healthy because there was a time this season where certain circumstances didn’t allow me to perform at 100 per cent; the circumstances which came up after after the Australian Open this year, and towards the end of the season, didn't allow me to perform at my best," he was quoted as saying.
