One of the big hopes of Poland, Iga Swiatek led the Polish side into the quarter-finals of the ongoing United Cup 2023-24. On the back of Swiatek’s heroics, Poland defeated Spain by 2-1 to confirm their slot into the knockout stage of the tournament. Top seed Swiatek took on Sara Sorribes Tormo and won the match in straight sets by 6-2, 6-1 in the singles competition.
Furthermore, she joined Hubert Hurkacz in the mixed doubles to register a big victory by outclassing margins of 6-0, 6-0 in the straight sets; this game of mixed doubles ended up in just 53 minutes courtesy of the Polish duo’s one-sided sheer dominance.
Earlier on the day, Hurkacz lost to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the men’s singles which was also the opening round of the day. Davidovich got better of Hurkacz and won the clash by 3-6, 6-3, and 6-4 to bag one win in the day for the Spanish side. However, Spain failed to make it to the knockout stage of the tournament as Poland emerged as better than the former to seal their spot in the next stage.

Later, Swiatek also spoke about her rare experience appearing in any mixed doubles competition. She lost 7 games in the 2 matches of the singles competition.
“It's lessons for the future and great practice. I hardly ever play mixed. You use different skills; it's about feeling the geometry of the court,” said Swiatek after Poland confirmed their place in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
Besides Swiatek, her teammate Hubert Hurkacz also lauded the former and credited her for coming up strong in hard situations during the clash against the Spanish duo.
“She carried me throughout the whole match, in every game she was making amazing shots,” said ninth seed Hulkarcz after his mixed doubles success with Iga Swiatek.
Apart from Poland’s win against Spain, the hosts Australia also defeated the reining champions United States by 2-1 to secure their berth in the quarter-finals of the ongoing United Cup 2023-24.
