On 13 January 2023, Paarl Royals took on Joburg Super Kings in the ongoing SA20 tournament. It was the fourth match of the tournament that took place in Paarl. The home side lost the first match while Joburg were coming off after winning their tournament opener. So, the visitors were looking t continue their winning momentum.
While Paarl Royals were looking to win their first game. Speaking of the match, Faf du Plessis won the toss and opted to bat first. For Joburg Super Kings, Janneman Malan and Reeza Hendricks came out to open the innings. Fans were hoping to see a solid start from them. But they failed to do so.

However, the bowlers of Paarl Royals put up a tremendous performance. They bundled out the visitors for just 81 runs in 17.2 overs. Both Bjorn Fortuin and Evan Jones took three wickets each. However, Evan Jones took those wickets in 2.2 overs only. Along with them, Ferisco Adams grabbed two wickets for 14 runs in three overs. Lungi Ngidi and Tabraiz Shamsi took one wicket each. For Joburg, Lizaad Williams was the highest scorer with 17* runs off 18 balls, including two fours. Seven players even failed to cross the single digit with the bat.
In reply, Jason Roy and Jos Buttler came out to open the innings for Paarl Royals. However, Jason Roy departed after scoring 12 runs off 13 balls, including two fours. Other batters came u with some contributions while Jos Buttler remained not out on 29* runs off 21 balls, including four boundaries. Thus, they chased down the target in just 10.3 overs with seven wickets in the bag. Thus, Paarl Royals won their first match, and that was also with a bonus point. Bjorn Fortuin won the player of the match award for his spell of three wickets for 16 runs in four overs.
