Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir has blasted Virat Kohli for his outburst on the DRS controversy. The Indian players were visibly irked when a controversial DRS decision ruled Dean Elgar not out. Ashwin had trapped Elgar in front and the on-field umpire had given him out. The ball looked like crashing into the stumps but Elgar decided to challenge the decision. The replays showed that the ball was going over the stumps, leaving Kohli and co stunned. Post the incident, the Indian players were seen having a go at broadcasters.
The likes of KL Rahul and Ravi Ashwin, who are generally very calm could also not control their frustration. Ashwin was caught saying: "You should find better ways to win, SuperSport (South African broadcaster)."
Virat Kohli also went to the stump mic and said "Focus on your team as well and not just the opposition, trying to catch people all the time."
KL Rahul was also heard saying "Whole country playing against XI guys."
Meanwhile, Gambhir was not amused with Kohli's behaviour and called him immature. "This is really bad. What Kohli did, going near the stump mic and reacting in that manner, that is really immature. This is not what you expect from an international captain, from an Indian captain. Then technology isn't in your hand. Then you have reacted in the same manner when there was a caught-behind appeal on the leg-side, neither did Dean Elgar react in that manner. During that Mayank Agarwal appeal, it looked out from the naked eye, but Elgar did not react in that manner," he said on Star Sports."
He added that coach Rahul Dravid needs to have a word with Virat Kohli.
"No matter what you say, stuff like he plays with his heart on his sleeve, this reaction was an exaggerated one and you can't be a role model in this manner. No budding cricketers would want to see this kind of a reaction, especially from the Indian captain.
"No matter the result in this Test match, this is not what you expect from a Test captain who has led the team for so long. I hope Rahul Dravid has a word with him, because the type of captain Dravid was, he would have never reacted in this manner," Gambhir said.
Meanwhile, Twitter users were not impressed with Gambhir's comments and blasted him for his comments. They reminded him of the fact that Gambhir too was very expressive when he used to play for India.
it's obvious lekin... gambhir hates kohli, so does gavaskar, hindi commentators are chomus.. and i am sure English commentators who have something about kohli.. they must have either hashim or vernan or some SAn. Mark Nichols and other won't say a word to kohli

Sure Kohli should have controlled his emotions in a better way but Gambhir should be the last person on the planet to talk about showing maturity in handling an ugly situation on the field!

Gautam Gambhir talking about Virat Kohli being childish on a cricket pitch just cracks me up.
The man literally used to punch people and curse them on the field.β Anish (@AnishNet) January 14, 2022
