India and West Indies have been fined by the Cricket Governing Body for slow over-rate during the first T20I match at the Brain Lara Stadium, in Trinidad on August 3. The visitors fell one over short of the minimum over rate and were fined five per cent of their match fee. While the hosts were two over short and have been fined ten per cent.

These fines have been imposed in accordance with Article 2.22 of the Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with minimum over-rate rules. According to this regulation, a team is fined 5% of their match price for each over that they do not bowl within the allotted time, with a maximum fine of 50% of the match fee.

India fell short of chasing 150

Both team skippers, India's Hardik Pandya and West Indies' Rovman Powell, recognized their teams' flaws, removing the need for a second hearing. On-field umpires Gregory Brathwaite and Patrick Gustard, as well as third umpire Nigel Duguid and fourth umpire Leslie Reifer, lodged the accusations.

Captain Powell led from the front and scored a total of 149 runs on the board. Powell was the leading scorer with 48 runs, while Nicholas Pooran contributed 41 runs. Powell led his team's innings with guts and commitment despite being dropped twice. Indian bowlers, notably Yuzvendra Chahal and Arshdeep Singh, performed admirably, each getting two wickets.

The Indian squad failed to get started in response. Their openers, Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill, were dismissed early. Tilak Varma, the debutant played an amazing 39 runs off 22 deliveries. Despite his efforts, the Indian side fell four runs short, finishing with a total of 145/9 in 20 overs. India then lost six wickets for just 68 runs. This victory gave the hosts a 1-0 lead in the five-match T20I series.

Hardik said after the match, "We were right in the chase and quite comfortable there. We made some errors which costed us the game which is fine. A young team will make mistakes. We will grow together. Throughout the game, we were in control of the game which was the positive in this game. Good four games coming ahead."
