In a setback for the Chennai team, Deepak Chahar will miss out on the majority of the Indian T20 League if not the entire tournament. He was a huge purchase for the franchise in the auction as they paid 14 crores for him. Chennai went all out as they were determined on having him on their side. He has been a match-winning bowler for them in the past and has also developed a lot as a batter.
Deepak Chahar was Chennai's most experienced Indian bowler, and finding a replacement for him within the squad will be difficult. The exact extent of his injury and how long it will take him to recover cannot be said. In case he is unavailable for the entire season, Chennai will look for players that went unsold in the auction. Here's a list of players that can replace Deepak Chahar in the ITL 2022:
Ishant Sharma
Ishant Sharma has a lot of experience, and he was India's primary bowler in the longest format until recently. He went unsold in the ITL mega auction but Chennai can look at him as a potential replacement to Chahar. He has a great understanding of the game and can do wonders for the team if he works on his consistency, and adjust to the T20 format.
Dhawal Kulkarni
Dhawal Kulkarni is a player who can be an ideal replacement to Deepak Chahar as he too can produce swing. The most important skill that Deepak Chahar has is to take wickets early with his swing. Kulkarni, too, can do that.
Arzan Nagwaswalla
Hailing from Gujarat, Arzan Nagwaswalla got a chance to be a standby player for India when they toured England in 2021. He is yet to make his debut in the Indian T20 League but can be of use to Chennai. He has had some great records in the domestic competitions thus Chennai may turn to him as someone who can be a long term investment.
