India's squad for the fifth Test against England has been announced. For the last match, Rohit Sharma will captain the team, with KL Rahul acting as his deputy. Veteran cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara has returned to the team, after missing the last series against Sri Lanka, which is a significant development for the side. However, there are some players who did not get a chance to be in the team. Here are some of the players who were unlucky to miss out on the squad for the fifth Test against England.
Mayank Agarwal
In the few games that he has played in the longest format of the game, Mayank Agarwal has been absolutely terrific. He was a part of the team before the final match was cancelled in 2021. However, he did not play a game due to an injury he suffered during a practice session. He was supposed to be a part of the playing XI in the first match before suffering the blow on his head. In 21 Test matches, Agarwal has scored 1488 runs at an average of 41.3.
Washington Sundar
Washington Sundar has not had a chance to play in many Test matches, but he, too, was a part of the Indian Team when they toured England in 2021. It was expected that he would return to the team for the final match. Sundar can be a handy all-rounder in the longest format of the game. Sundar has six wickets in four matches with the ball and 265 runs at an average of 66.2 with the bat.
Prithvi Shaw
Prithvi Shaw has been absent from the Indian team for some time now. He had a promising start to his career at the top of the order in red-ball cricket. However, he could not hold on to his position in the team for long. The 22-year has been eyeing a comeback in the team for the past few series, but he has not been able to do that. In his five appearances thus far, he has scored 339 runs at an average of 42.4. He also has a century to his name.
