The discussion regarding Hardik Pandya not letting Tilak Varma get his fifty in the third T20I against West Indies was a big talking point among the fans, former cricketers, analysts, and experts. Opinions were divided among the fans. While most of the fans believed that Hardik was wrong, some believed that Hardik was not wrong. The discussion regarding the incident is still going on.
Tilak Varma was on 49(37) when Hardik Pandya hit a six and won the match for the team. There were 13 balls still left in the match and India had lost only 3 wickets. The fans criticized Hardik for being selfish, self-obsessed, and not caring for the youngster. Many felt the same about Pandya’s decision. Despite India winning the match, the fans were disappointed with Hardik’s act.
Harsha Bhogle's tweet and AB De Villiers' reply
Talking about the same, Harsha Bhogle gave his opinions. Bhogle took to his Twitter and tweeted about the incident. “I am puzzled by the discussion around Tilak Varma missing out on a 50. It isn't a landmark, in fact, other than a century (which is rare), there are no landmarks in T20 cricket. We are far too obsessed with individual achievement within a team sport,” wrote Bhogle.
The 62-year-old believed that a run less than the milestone would not have mattered to the youngster. The Indian commentator said that fans are too obsessed with the milestones and fifty should not be considered a milestone. “I don't believe 50s should be recorded in individual stats in T20 cricket. If you have made enough runs quickly enough (avg and SR), that is all that matters” wrote Bhogle.
Opinions of Bhogle had mixed responses. Many supported the argument of the Indian commentator and others disagreed with him. The former South African great AB De Villiers commented on Bhogle’s tweet. The 39-year-old supported the arguments of Bhogle. “Thank you thank you thank you. Finally, someone says it!” wrote De Villiers and supported Bhogle on his opinions about the landmarks in T20 cricket.
Here's how the fans reacted to Bhogle's opinions -
Totally agree Sir. Even Tilak Verma wouldn't have minded that but somehow people do.

It's all about leadership......
Emotions triumph over logic, especially in Cricket the breeding ground of emotions.

It’s not about the 50. It’s about the gesture and more about the leadership.

It was because of hardik pandya's self obsession to be centre of everything.. He can't be a leader

Going by the logic of confidence, even Hardik would have felt good after hitting that 6 which is essential for our World Cup campaign.

Completely agree with you. As a leader you need to nurture the talent especially players who are low on confidence

Harsha, more than Tilak's milestone, Indians are now fed up with arrogance & self obsessed behaviour of Pandya. He promoted himself above Sanju, he bowls ahead of Arsh & Mukesh when these guys r trying to make their mark in internationals. Isn't that pathetic!

Thank you thank you thank you. Finally someone says it!
