Team India had a forgettable 2022 based on their performance in the major tournaments. They failed to qualify for the finals of both the Asia Cup and the 20-20 World Cup. However, they are still in the race to get qualified for the World Test Championship’s final. Currency, they are playing the two-match Test series in Bangladesh.

After that, they will play the current number-one ranked team, Australia in a four-match series. But, there are several moments where Indian players got involved in some controversial incidents. Virat Kohli and stump mic controversy

This controversial incident took place during the third Test match between South Africa and India on 11 January 2022. It was the series decider as India were looking to win the series. But, on day three, Virat Kohli got involved in a controversial moment. During the 21st over of the South African second innings, the umpire gave an LBW decision in favor of India against Dean Elgar.    

But, the Protea batter took a review and it showed that the ball was going over the stumps despite hitting just below the knee roll. Therefore, the umpires overturned the decision. So, Virat Kohli was not happy and walked up to the stump mic to let it rip. Kohli said: "Focus on your team as well when they shine the ball.. and not just the opposition, trying to catch people all the time." "Whole country playing against XI guys," KL Rahul added. Eventually, India lost the match and series by 2-1 against the Proteas.

This controversial incident took place during the fifth and rescheduled Test match between England and India on 1 July 2022. India were looking to avoid a defeat to win the series as they went to that game with a 2-1 lead. But, on day three, Virat Kohli got involved in a controversial moment with Jonny Bairstow. In the 32nd over, these players exchanged some heated words.

Kohli was standing in the slip cordon. Then, fans observed that Kohli was putting his finger on his lips to shut down Bairstow. However, umpires came and stopped them from any further problems. Eventually, Bairstow scored a hundred in the match and gave an angry stare to Kohli also. However, India lost the match and the series ended 2-2.

This controversial incident took place during the 20-20 World Cup 2022. Team India were preparing for the Netherlands clash in Sydney on 25 October. After having an intense practice session, the players went for lunch. But, they only custom sandwiches along with fruits and falafel. players were expecting a full-course meal as it was lunchtime. Even, the foods were cold that got served to the players. 

Regarding it, an official privy to the development of the Indian Cricket Board said to PTI: "It's not like any boycott... Some players did pick up fruits and falafel but everyone wanted to have lunch and hence they had food going back to the hotel. The problem is that the Governing Body of Cricket isn't providing any hot food after lunch. In a bilateral series, the host association is in charge of catering and they always provide hot Indian meals after a training session. But for the Governing Body of Cricket, the rule is the same for all countries." 

Virat Kohli fake-throw controversy during T20 World Cup

This controversial incident took place during the 20-20 World Cup 2022 when team India took on Bangladesh on 2 November 2022. India won that match by five wickets but Virat Kohli got accused of ‘Fake Fielding’. During the seventh over of Bangladesh’s innings, Virat Kohli was seen doing a ‘Fake Throw’ to divert the batters. However, the umpire missed it and they did not take any actions during the match. 

After the match, Bangladesh claimed that umpires did not give five penalty runs for that incident. Bangladesh’s Nurul Hasan said: "Certainly the field was wet and it had an impact and everyone saw that and eventually what I felt is that when we were talking there was a fake throw and it could have been a five-run penalty and that could have gone our way but unfortunately even that didn't come."

This controversial incident happened during the first Test match between India and Bangladesh on 14 December 2022. During the 14th over of Bangladesh’s first innings. On the first delivery of that over, Litton das defended that ball, and then, fans observed that Siraj said something toward the batter. Then, the Bangladesh batter came also toward the bowler and the umpire came in between them to intervene. 

After that, in the very next ball, Mohammed Siraj bowled Litton Das and got his wicket. Then, Mohammed Siraj and Virat Kohli were seen with some aggressive gestures toward the crowds as it seemed. Speaking of the match, India won the match by 188 runs and took a 1-0 lead over Bangladesh.
