The Indian cricket team has seen many great friendships over the years. There have been many pairs on the cricket field who shared excellent camaraderie as they were often seen having a great time. Some players have a special liking for a particular player as they love batting with them while some love bowling together. Indian cricket fans have witnessed several indelible moments on the field between several pairs.
Here we will take a look at five such pairs who lit up the cricket field with their on-field bromance:
MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina
The bonding between Dhoni and Raina is not hidden from anyone as the duo was often seen enjoying each other’s company both in the Indian team and in Chennai Franchise. They would always have each other’s back and were also involved in many great batting partnerships together.
One such memorable partnership was in the 2015 world cup match between India and Zimbabwe when the duo put together 196 runs off 158 balls for the fifth wicket. The partnership got India out of misery and sealed a six-wicket victory for the team. They also shared many memorable moments in the successful run of the Chennai Franchise in the Indian T20 League.
Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh
The friendship between Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh goes a long way back, much before they started playing for India. The duo was often seen performing many on-field antics together always giving a dose of entertainment to the crowd. The pair shared many memorable moments and were also a part of team India’s two greatest wins.
They were a part of the team in the 20-20 world cup victory in 2007 and the ODI world cup win in 2011. The two wins meant a lot to the players as together they had also witnessed the horror show of the 2007 ODI world cup and the final loss of the 2003 world cup.
Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma
After the retirement of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, he was asked who is going to break his records, the batter quickly replied ‘Rohit and Virat’. The duo of Rohit and Virat vindicated their idol’s words as they are currently known to be the two greatest batters of the modern era. There have been many rumours suggesting a rift between the two players many times in the past but both are always seen enjoying each other’s success on the field. Virat has often called Rohit to be the best batter in the world.
Both Rohit and Virat have been seen backing each other as they defended each other vehemently in the press conferences whenever there were talks of dropping either of them. The most memorable moment involving both the players on the cricket field was when they were involved in an unbeaten 186-run partnership off just 104 balls against Australia in 2013. Courtesy of their explosive partnership India chased down the target of 360 with 39 balls to spare.
Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly
The pair of Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly is one of the most feared opening partnerships in the history of cricket. They are also the most prolific opening partnership ever in the history of ODI cricket. Apart from ripping apart several bowling attacks, they were also involved in rigorous discussions on the field, planning dismissals of many batters.
While being captain of the team, Ganguly often threw the ball to Tendulkar and asked him to bowl during several crunch situations of the game. Tendulkar rarely disappointed his captain as he played a major role in two of the greatest victories against Australia in Tests. First in Kolkata 2001 and the second one in Adelaide 2003 where he picked up the wickets of key players to script a historic victory for India.
Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul
The duo of KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya are the latest addition to the on-field bromance in Indian cricket. The pair share a great brotherhood with each other as they’re often seen celebrating wickets together on the field.
Rahul and Pandya also got involved in a controversy after they appeared on a famous talk show and became open about their personal lives passing some indecent comments. The interview received flak from their fans and the duo was handed a suspension by the Indian cricket board. Both the players have since moved on from the controversy and climbed higher on the ladder of success in their respective careers.
