As the ODI World Cup 2023 is nearing, Pakistan is continuously creating confusion over their participation in the tournament. After Pakistan Cricket Board’s letter to the government seeking permission to participate in the marquee international tournament in India, their Sports Minister Ehsan Mazari has come up with a new statement, igniting a new debate.
Mazari said that if India will be playing their Asia Cup 2023 matches at neutral venues, Pakistan will also be playing their World Cup matches at neutral venues. "If India demands to play their Asia Cup games at a neutral venue, we would also demand the same for our World Cup games in India,” said Ehsan Mazari to the Indian Express.
Although this statement from the Pakistan Sports Minister went on to put him on the receiving end of some brutal trolls on social media, a section of the cricket fans immediately took to Twitter and came up with hilarious reactions while trolling Mazari and the Pakistan cricket team as well.
Here’s how fans reacted:
Mazari also shared the mandate of the high-level committee made by the Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif to decide on the Pakistan cricket team’s travel to India. Furthermore, he blamed India for mixing sports with politics and creating tension on both sides of the border.
“The committee will be headed by Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and I am among the 11 ministers who are part of it. We will discuss the issue and give our recommendations to the PM, who is also the patron-in-chief of PCB. The PM will take the final decision,” stated Mazari.
“India brings sports into politics. I don’t understand why the Indian government doesn’t want to send their cricket team here. A huge baseball contingent from India was in Islamabad to play some time back. There was also the bridge team that had travelled to Pakistan. There were around 60-plus people, I was the chief guest of the event. They won here and left. Pakistan’s football, hockey, and chess teams also travel to India,” he added.
