'Ye world cup nehi hai bro'- Fans react as Sunrisers Hyderabad appoint new skipper ahead of IPL 2024

Pat Cummins has been appointed as the new captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of the IPL 2024 season. A shocking change of events by the franchise going forward.

The teams in the Indian Premier League hold a great place in the hearts of IPL fans. There is always a sense of loyalty for your favourite teams. There are still Champion teams which include the likes of Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings and underachieving teams like the Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings. Some of them have the opportunity to earn their glory but have not been at their consistent best recently. 

One such team is Sunrisers Hyderabad. This team made their debut in 2013. From there they have made it to the playoffs 6 times in 11 years. Out of these 6 seasons, they were also champions in the 2016 season. After 2016 the franchise was having some of the best times in IPL where they were making the top four consistently. Unfortunately, after the 2020 IPL season and a change of captains, they seemed to have underperformed in the last three years. This season will be the time when they will want things to finally change for the better.

New skipper in town

In a shocking turn of events recently with the franchise again there is a new SRH skipper in town. The franchise has gone on to pick current Australia skipper Pat Cummins to lead the side in the upcoming season. The fans have some mixed feelings about this decision as they thought that last season skipper Aiden Markram after his success in the SA20 deserved to be the captain. However, there are still some people who believe in the 30-year-old pacer who has led the Australian side to two major international trophies in the last two years.

Cummins is experienced and one of the best pacers in the world. There is still a valid debate on Aiden Markram, who has proven to be a great leader in the past and on Cummins' T20 performances especially in the IPL. This can still be a change with someone as experienced as Cummins, who has also been one of the most expensive players in the auction as well. We don’t know whether it will change fortunes yet, but it is really an interesting decision from the franchise and management.
