Viral video- Rohit Sharma fan runs onto the pitch in 20-20 World Cup match, gets fined Rs 6.5 lakh

Indian captain Rohit Sharma appears to be quite frank and genuine in his interviews and pressers. The 35-year-old often wins over journalists with his witty answer and clever comebacks. Naturally, the Indian skipper enjoys great popularity among cricket fans.

A showcase of his crazy fandom was seen in the second innings of India's 20-20 World Cup clash with Zimbabwe. A video that is doing the rounds of social media shows a young fan running onto the field to meet Rohit Sharma.

The video shows the fan running towards Rohit Sharma with an Indian flag in hand. Two security officials also appear to chase after him and tackle him before he reaches Rohit Sharma.

As soon as Rohit sees the fan being tackled down on the ground, however, he runs towards the officials and asks them to not hurt the fan. He also appears to talk with the fan who was overwhelmed by emotions.

As for the match, it was a straightforward win for India in their last Super 12 match. Having already qualified for the semi-final stage following South Africa’s loss against the Netherlands, India went into the match for a chance to top the table.

Skipper Rohit Sharma decided to bat first after winning the toss. India on the back of a sensational Suryakumar Yadav’s sensational 61 off 25 and KL Rahul’s 51 put forth a target of 186 for Zimbabwe.

Coming on to defend the total, Indian bowlers showcased great skills to get the entirety of the Zimbabwe team at just 115 in 17.2 overs.

New reports suggest that the fan who breached security to meet Rohit Sharma has now been fined Rs 6.5 lakh for running onto the pitch.
