Lucknow Super Giants leg-spinner Amit Mishra was caught applying saliva during the game against Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2023. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the use of saliva has been banned by the Apex Council. However, despite the pandemic's peak over, the cricket governing body hasn't re-allowed the use of saliva. According to them, this is quite unhygienic and doesn't make any difference for bowlers.
Meanwhile, the former India player was caught doing the same. The incident happened in the 12th over, in which former RCB and India skipper Virat Kohli got out. This is the first time he has committed this mistake. In the Indian leg of the IPL 2021, Mishra did the same while playing for Delhi Capitals against RCB. In that game, the Red Army, Bangalore won by one run.

Amit Mishra got rid of Virat Kohli a few balls later
Meanwhile, before this over, the home team, Bangalore's scoring rate got slower after the powerplay. After the first six overs, they had scored 56/0. After the field restrictions were over, the team could reach only 99 runs in 12 overs. In pursuit of increasing the scoring rate, former skipper Kohli got out. Talking about the game, the Super Giants had won the toss and elected to bowl first.
Former and current skippers, Kohli and Faf du Plessis provided a great start but slowed down after the powerplay. While Kohli was going well, the former South Africa skipper was playing run-a-ball innings. However, after the former's wicket, Du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell helped the team reach 212/2 thanks to their half-centuries. In reply, the Lucknow side had a poor start as they lost three wickets for 23 runs.
Despite Nicholas Pooran and Marcus Stoinis innings, the team was staing down a super over extension after losing nine wickets. However, with Dinesh Karthik fumbling, the likes of Avesh Khan and Ravi Bishnoi managed to complete the winning run.
