The two-match Test series between Sri Lanka and Australia has started with a dominating effort from the visiting side. This shouldn't be too much of a surprise for the fans for two reasons. One, Sri Lanka is not one of the best of teams anymore. Secondly, Australia have the confidence of beating Pakistan in their backyard, albeit Pakistan had a defensive approach during the series.

However, these things matter very little when you look at the result. Currently, the Pat Cummins-led side is on the top of the World Test Championship table and is looking to assert its dominance in the sub-continent. After losing the toss and being asked to bowl, they started decently with the ball. The combination of Mitchell Starc and Cummins took one wicket each with the score reading 42/2.

Lankan skipper Dimuth Karunaratne was going ok on 28 when he became the victim of the brilliance of David Warner. The former tried to defend a straight ball from Nathan Lyon on the front foot. However, he didn't cover the line properly and the ball kissed the inside edge of the bat. The Aussie players started appealing for an lbw decision. On the other hand, Warner dived in front and took a brilliant catch which eventually dismissed the Lanka skipper.

After the dismissal, the hosts couldn't recover and were all-out for 212 runs. Lyon took a fifer and Mitchell Swepson took three wickets. On the other hand, Starc and Cummins took one each. Wicketkeeper batter Niroshan Dickwella (58) scored a half-century while others failed to cross the 40-run mark. Five batters failed to touch the double-digit mark.

In reply, the visitors have scored 98/3 at stumps on Day One. Usman Khawaja is carrying on his form since his return to the national early this year. He is batting on 47 and will come out to bat with Travis Head who is batting on six on June 30
