'Aman Khan is one that has really impressed us' – DC head coach Ricky Ponting

Ahead of the IPL 2023 season, Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting on March 23 praised uncapped player Aman Hakim Khan from Mumbai, saying the all-rounder pleased him in the first few preseason training sessions. The Delhi Capitals acquired the 26-year-old Mumbai native from Kolkata Knight Riders in a trade for India all-rounder Shardul Thakur before the IPL 2023 Players' Auction.

"Aman Khan is one that has really impressed us, and we traded Shardul (Thakur) with KKR to get him in, and he has been ultra-impressive, and I don't know how much you have seen of him and his last couple of days at training has been pretty special," Ponting said.

On the other hand, the Tasmanian asserted that other players would step up to fill the power-hitting role left vacant in the middle of the order by the absence of Rishabh Pant, who will be sidelined for the majority of 2023 due to his injuries in a car. "So when we are talking about losing some power in middle-order, Aman Khan, Rovman Powell and someone like Axar Patel, whose batting has improved a lot in the last 12 months, we will find ways to cover for Rishabh, but we will not get same quality player," Ponting further said.
