In the 8th match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023, the Guyana Amazon Warriors faced off against the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. The Patriots won the toss and asked the Warriors to bat first. They accepted the invitation with both hands as they posted a massive 197/7 in 20 overs. Shai Hope with 54 off 32, including three fours and four sixes remained the top-scorer. He was followed by Saim Ayub with 31 off 17 Shimron Hetmyer scored 26 off 22 whereas Keemo Paul (25 off 18) and Romario Shephard (25 off 10) were key contributors in the innings.

Talking of the bowling from the Patriots, Oshane Thomas remained the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/38 in four overs. Dominic Drakes scalped two whereas Sheldon Cottrell and Izharulhaq Naveed returned with one wicket each. In response, the Patriots were bundled out for 132 inside 17 overs. In the process, star left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie registered his career-best figures of 4/29 in four overs. He was also awarded the ‘Player of the Match’ for his exceptional bowling.

Patriots lost the match by 65 runs

In the run chase for the Patriots, Evin Lewis, the skipper, remained their top-scorer with 48 off 24 with one four and six maximums. Joshua Da Silva with 10 off 10, including one four, and Ambati Rayudu with 32 off 24, including two fours and two sixes, were the only other batters in the double digits. Following Motie’s 4/29 was Imran Tahir with 2/35 in four overs. Dwaine Pretorius, Romario Shephard, Keemo Paul, and Odean Smith returned with one wicket. This meant none of the Warriors’ bowlers went wicketless.

With the latest win, the Warriors have reached the third position in the standings with three points from two games. These include one win and one match that failed to produce results. Jamaica Tallawahs lead the table with St Lucia Kings in second place. The Warriors are followed by the Patriots in the fourth place. At the same time, Barbados Royals and Trinbago Knight Riders are struggling at the bottom of the table with just one point to their credit.
