Virat Kohli, regarded as one of the finest cricketers of this generation, has fans all around the world. The achievements and accolades that he has received have made him a global superstar in the sporting fraternity. And one such instance of a heartwarming interaction between West Indies wicketkeeper-batter Joshua Da Silva's mother and Kohli after the end of Day 2 in the ongoing second Test in Port of Spain, Trinidad, just reiterates the stardom and aura that he possesses across nations.
The Caribbean wicketkeeper's mother is a big fan of Kohli, which is evident in a video that is making rounds on social media platforms. She hugged and kissed the former India captain. She’s coming to see Virat and not me: Joshua Da Silva
Revealing that his mother was a huge fan of Virat Kohli, Da Silva said, "My mom told me on the phone that she’s coming to see Virat and not me. That's literally what my mom said. I couldn’t believe it. I don't blame her, to be honest. She's right up there watching." In the video that was captured by senior journalist Vimal Kumar, Da Silva’s mother hugged and kissed Kohli as the Indian players were about to take the bus back to the hotel.
Kohli scored his 29th Test hundred and became the first batter to score a century in his 500th international match. This was Kohli’s first overseas international century since 2018; his last ton in overseas Tests came in December 2018 when India toured Australia. In terms of the most away Test hundreds, the former Indian skipper is second only to the great Sachin Tendulkar.
Captain Kraigg Brathwaite and Tagenarine Chanderpaul, who opened for West Indies, got them off to a cautious start, ensuring they did not lose a wicket for most of the session. However, the batter fell to Ravindra Jadeja, following which debutant Kirk McKenzie made a quick start to his innings. The West Indies finished the day on 86/1, 352 runs behind.
