On 16 October 2022, the eighth edition of the 20-20 World Cup kicked off. Asia Cup champions, Sri Lanka locked horns with Namibia. However, they faced each other in the qualifiers as the ‘Super 12’ stage is going to start on 22 October only. So, both teams were looking to do well in order to get qualified for the next round.

Sri Lanka captain, Dasun Shanaka won the toss and choose to field first. But, a video went viral on all social media platforms when Kusal Mendis took a great catch. In the first game of the tournament itself, he managed to take a blinder with the gloves for Sri Lanka behind the stumps.

Speaking of the video, the incident took place during the fifth over of the match. Namibia were batting at 24 runs for two wickets after four overs. For them, Stephan Baard and Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton were batting. In the first three deliveries of that over, Chamika Karunaratne conceded 11 runs. 

Then, on the fifth delivery of that over, Karunaratne bowled a slower off-cutter and Jan Nicol got deceived by it. He managed to produce an outside edge only which Kusal Medis managed to take with a full-stretch dive to his left. Thus, Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton lost his wicket after scoring 20 runs off 12 balls, including one four and two sixes.

Speaking of the teams, both teams met in the qualifiers in the last edition of the tournament also. Then, Sri Lanka managed to defeat them by seven wickets. On the other hand, Namibia impressed everyone after qualifying for ‘Super 12’ in the last 20-20 World Cup. they even defeated Scotland in the ‘Super 12’ stage. So, this time around, they will look to do well again. However, they were in a spot of bother in the first match as they scored 59 runs for three wickets in the first 10 overs.
