Speaking of the match, Argentina took the lead in the 23rd minute. Lionel Messi scored the opener from the spot. It was his fourth penalty goal of this tournament. Then, in the 36th minute, Angel di Maria scored the second goal while Mac Allister assisted him. Then, in the second half, Kylian Mbappe scored two goals in the 80th and 81st minute respectively. Thus, the match ended 2-2 after 90 minutes.

In the extra time, Messi scored the third goal and Mbappe completed his hattrick as the game ended 3-3 after 120 minutes. Finally, Argentina’s goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez came up with a heroic performance as his country won the penalty shootout by 4-2. Lionel Messi won the player of the match award and the Golden Ball award. It was his fifth player of the match award in this edition of the tournament. He finished the 2022 World Cup with seven goals and three assists for his country.
