In the normal course of a cricket match, it is the job of the umpires to make sure the players are following the rules. However, in the ongoing third ODI between Australia and New Zealand, the officials were caught unawares. Apparently, in the 38th over of the Aussie innings, Steve Smith found out that there were fielders on the boundary line.
According to the rules, only four fielders are allowed outside the 30-yard circle from over 11 to 40. However, the Kiwis had played an extra fielder outside the circle. Smith, who was batting in the middle, caught the error from the opposition. This is why he decided to go for a slog as he knew it was a no-ball. The ball went for a six and the former Australia skipper reminded the umpires about the error.

Talking about the game, the right-hander hit another ODI hundred. His innings helped the team reach a respectable total of 267/5 at the end of the innings. The Yellow Brigade had a poor start as they lost two wickets at 16 runs. He scored 105 off 131 balls including 11 fours and a six. Smith stitched important partnerships such as 118 runs with Marnus Labuschagne and 69 runs with wicketkeeper batter Alex Carey.
At the time of writing, New Zealand has scored 75/2 with skipper Kane Williamson and vice-captain Tom Latham in the middle. Australia would be looking to win the game as they are giving a farewell to their skipper, Aaron Finch. He recently announced his retirement from the 50-over format citing his poor form with the bat. Early in the game, he received a Guard of Honor from the Men In Black. Finch could only score five runs in his last ODI game.
