The game of cricket requires huge respect for its rules. Cricketers are expected to hold these rules in high regard and play in a respectful manner. Players, for example, walk out when they nick the ball, fielders do not run batters out if they fall due to a collision with the bowler or fielders. Sportsmanship is almost always the backbone of any cricket match.

The Umpire is tasked with running the game in a smooth manner according to the rules. But what would happen if the umpiring itself is substandard?

In a similar instance, an umpire was seen calling a wide ball even before the ball reached the batter. A video doing the rounds of social media shows a game of village cricket being held somewhere in England.

In the video in question, the bowler balls a looping delivery on the leg side and the umpire calls it wide before reaching the wicket. The hilarity, however, does not end there. Having already added six runs in his individual score in his mind, the batter in order to make the most of a poor delivery goes for a slog on the leg side. Only to give an easy catch to the wicketkeeper!

Twitter had a field day with this video as many could not believe the dismissal or rather the absolute craziness of it. Fans came up with their own take on the ball with one saying, “Did he pull the pin before throwing that hand Granade?”

Another one suggested, “Not that much celebration by the fielding team, presumably this is a regular occurrence?!”

One user by the name Andy however seemed to understand the pain of the batter as they wrote, “That’s why batting can be so frustrating. We’ve all been there trying to hit a rank delivery too hard. Unlucky fella and welcome to the Club!”

There were some however who raised questions on the legality of the ball as well. One user wrote, “Difficult to judge if that ball even landed on the pitch or just off; which would (should) have resulted in a no-ball.”
