After waiting for nearly three years, former India skipper Virat Kohli managed to get his 71st international hundred. During this phase, he led the team to memorable victories and was also part of a few agonies. During this period, the fans waited for him to get a hundred as if the world depends on it. He was perceived to be 'out of form' even when he was getting half-centuries.

This year, he was actually out of sorts with the bat from Indian T20 League 2022 till India's tour of England. During his period, he could only score three fifties. After this, he decided to take a break from the game and miss the white-ball series against the West Indies and Zimbabwe. The right-hander made his comeback in the game ahead of the ongoing Asia Cup 2022.

During the tournament, he looked in good touch as he scored two half-centuries and a 35. The Men In Blue were playing their last game of the tournament against Afghanistan as they were knocked out of the final race. India had some changes in the playing XI and Kohli was asked to open the innings. The fans couldn't have imagined that he would be able to break his century drought.

During his innings, the 2008 U19 World Cup-winning skipper hit 122 not out including 12 fours and six sixes. This is his maiden T20I hundred as his highest score in the format was 94 not out. In Tests and ODI, the Delhi player has 27 and 43 centuries respectively. His innings saw the team getting the highest team total of the tournament i.e 212/2. After the innings, players came down to congratulate their former skipper. During this, he said "Abhi hai cricket baaki" to Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
