India head coach Rahul Dravid has revealed how he and the team keeping a tab on New Zealand vs Sri Lanka's first Test. Apparently, India vs Australia's fourth Test and New Zealand vs Sri Lanka's first Test had great significance for the Test Championship final spot. With the Aussies already qualifying for the final, the likes of India and Sri Lanka were in contention for the final.
However, on the last day of the BGT Test, things got tense between the Blackcaps and the Lankan Lions. The first session of the last day was washed out due to rain. With only two sessions left and more than 250 runs to win, the home team lost three early wickets. However, the likes of Kane Williamson and Daryl Mitchell took the game close. In the end, the former scored the winning run on the last ball of the game.
Meanwhile, Dravid has revealed that after Australia's first innings, the team was forced to keep an eye on the Christchurch game.
We were eagerly hoping for Sri Lanka doesn't win: Rahul Dravid
After the fourth BGT Test ended in a draw, Dravid thanked New Zealand for their efforts.
“The first day we saw the wicket in Ahmedabad, we instantly knew winning the toss would be crucial. Then the way Australia batted in the first two days, forced us to depend on the outcome between Sri Lanka and New Zealand,” said Dravid during an interaction on Star Sports.
He added: "We were eagerly watching, hoping Sri Lanka doesn't win. The World Test Championship is a two-year long event, all the teams play six Test series each, so it's natural you'll be dependent on others. Although you have to put in your best but in competitions such as this you are also dependent on others.
“The good thing is that New Zealand, who mostly knock us out of World tournaments, gave us little support. We are thankful to them.”
