'Whatever he's doing, I am....' - Yuzvendra Chahal speaks about competing with Wanindu Hasaranga

Yuzvendra Chahal has been at his absolute best in the ongoing Indian T20 League 2022. He has already picked 24 wickets in 13 games at an average of 16.83. Thus, he has played an influential role in Rajasthan's successful run in this edition.

Besides, Chahal is currently the leading run-scorer of the 2022 edition as well. However, he is receiving some stiff competition in the form of Wanindu Hasaranga. While playing for Bangalore, the Sri Lankan spinner has picked 23 wickets in 13 games at an average of 14.65. Thus, both of them are in the race to win the Purple Cap.

Having said that, Chahal recently denied any sort of competition with Hasaranga for the Purple Cap. He stated that the 24-year-old was like a brother. The 31-year-old said the same after Rajasthan's 24-run win over Lucknow. It is to be noted that he picked a wicket during the game and thus, went past Hasaranga's tally of 23 wickets for now.

“Whatever he’s (Hasaranga) doing, I am happy for him because he’s like a brother to me. If he takes wickets, if Kuldeep takes wickets, I am happy with that,” said Yuzvendra Chahal. In the meanwhile, the one wicket which Chahal picked on Sunday was that of Deepak Hooda. It was a crucial wicket as the 27-year-old had scored a half-century, and looked superb during his innings.

However, Chahal still went for 42 runs in his full quota of four overs during the game against the Lucknow-based franchise. Thus, He stated that he was a little bit disappointed with his performance. Further on, he drew light on how he planned Hooda's dismissal.

We needed that win. For us to finish in the top-two, we had to win this match. I was a little bit disappointed with myself but I'll definitely come back in the next game. When Hooda was batting so well, leg-side was shorter, I didn't want to take any risk. I tried to bowl a couple of flighted balls, and he tried to hit sixes, so I didn't want to give any extra runs. That's why I tried to bowl a little bit quicker tonight," he added.
