Renowned digital streaming platform Disney+ Hotstar which had digital media rights to the Indian Premier League until the 2022 edition has incurred a big loss after losing its rights for the tournament. Ahead of the 2023 edition, it was Jio Cinema that won the bid for media rights on digital platforms. Talking in terms of numbers, it was a loss of 38 lakh paid subscribers from October to December 2022.

Apart from this, 42 lakh paid subscribers unsubscribed between January and March 2023, which raised to 1.25 Crore from April and June 2023. The total number of paid subscribers who left the platform adds up to 2 crores in the last nine months. Notably, the digital platform that acquired the rights to the Indian Premier League got a big boost in subscribers and the viewers during 2023 edition of the tournament. Meanwhile, the rights of the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 in India will also be on Jio Cinema.

The World Cup will commence on October 5 with the defending champions England and the runners-up of the 2019 World Cup, New Zealand, squaring up for the inaugural match. The hosts India will be locking horns with the five-time champions Australia on October 8 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

The initial schedule that was announced by the Cricket Governing Body was waved off in light of the Indian festival Navaratri coinciding with some of the key clashes of the tournament. But on Wednesday, a revised schedule was sent out by the body.
