Lucknow Super Giants have been dealt a blow as Mark Wood is likely to miss the rest of IPL 2023. The England speedster will fly back for the birth of his daughter. There is a very slim chance that he might return in the later stages of the tournament if LSG gets into the playoffs. But, chances of it happening look very grim right now. In fact, Wood was taking the signatures of his teammates as he bid adieu to the LSG camp.
Wood has played for LSG in four games and has done beautifully by picking 11 wickets for them. The tear-away pacer was in good form but he was sidelined as he dealt with a bout of flu. Naveen-ul-haq came in his place and did well to make Wood's spot his own. The right-arm-quick did not get another chance since then. Wood vowed to come back stronger and do well if he can rejoin the side if they make the playoffs.
The backroom staff are fantastic - Mark Wood on Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2023
“For the birth of my daughter. So, sadly, but for a good reason to go home. Hopefully, I might be able to come back and hopefully, you will be able to see me again. I am sorry that unfortunately I have not played more and in the four games that I have managed to play, I have managed to get a few wickets and hopefully, I can charge in again,” Wood said in a video that LSG put out on Twitter.
“It's a great team togetherness here. I really love the team, the backroom staff are fantastic and it has been great to see the lads do well over different parts of the tournament,” he added. “One last push and get into those playoffs and make it to the finals. That's the goal and as a group, we understand that. It is tough in sports, you win some and you lose some but the lads are training hard. There are some fantastic characters in the group and they really try everything for your team. So keep believing and back them up, and I am sure they'll come good,” Wood added.
The LSG side is one which is packed with match winners, but they have not been able to string together a number of wins so that they can confirm a playoff berth. The side lost their skipper KL Rahul due to injury. They also suffered a 56-run defeat in the hands of Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
Let us take a look at the reactions on Twitter:

Proud that countries like England Australia are choosing country (The Ashes) over franchise. Yes, money is lost but that's the franchise's fault, not the player. Apne yaha to WTC T20WC ODI WC sab Paani me post Dhoni. 🤡
