'Ye kya kya dekhna pad raha hai' - Fans react as Bangladesh register their first victory against India in 11 years in Asia Cup history

In the Asia Cup 2023, the sixth match of the Super 4s featured India facing Bangladesh in a match with no bearing on the tournament's final, which is scheduled for Sunday. But the Bangladesh team stunned the seven-time Asia Cup winners by six runs at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.  After winning the toss, the India skipper Rohit Sharma opted to bat first with the notion of giving themselves the challenge of chasing under lights. The Indian team made five changes as the team were looking to try their bench strength for the upcoming World Cup.

The Bangladesh team had a poor start with bat as the Indian new ball bowlers. Both Mohammed Shami and Shardul Thakur sent the Bangladesh top order back into the hut inside six overs. But then, the skipper Shakib Al Hasan (80), along with Towhid Hridoy (54), looked to steady the sinking Bangladesh batting. The duo added a partnership of 101 runs and played sensibly taking the attack back to the opposition.

Unfortunately, Shakib missed out on a well-deserved century but the Bangladesh lower middle order ensured that Bangladesh had a fighting total on the board which their bowlers could defend. With some superb batting displays by Nasum Ahmed (44), supported by Mahedi Hasan (29), and Tanzim Hasan Sakib (14), Bangladesh managed to accumulate a competitive total of 266 runs on the scoreboard.

Let us know how Twitter has reacted to this defeat;

Shubman Gill scored his fifth international century

Starting off on a shaky note, Shubman Gill displayed his cricketing prowess by achieving his fifth century in ODIs. The 24-year-old showcased exceptional composure, accumulating eight boundaries and five sixes en route to his century. It took him 117 deliveries to reach this significant milestone, and he also exceeded 1000 runs in ODIs for the year 2023.

Gill assumed the role of anchoring India's innings as an opening batsman. It was this innings which provided stability as wickets tumbled at the opposite end. Eventually, he concluded his gritty innings with a score of 121 runs off 133 balls. Nevertheless, despite his heroic efforts, Gill fell prey to the consistent bowling of Mahedi Hasan, and India fell short of the victory line.
