He recently scored his 47th ODI century and is now just 2 short of equaling Sachin Tendulkar's record of 49 centuries, which is the highest till now in ODI cricket. Apart from that, the 34-year-old modern master also became the fastest to reach 13,000 ODI runs in just 267 innings, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar who had achieved this feat in 321 innings.
Kohli accomplished both of these feats during his century-knock against the arch-rivals Pakistan in India’s first super-4 match of the ongoing continental championship. The current edition of the Asia Cup is very crucial for Virat Kohli and Team India as they are gearing up for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023, in their backyard starting October 5.
Following the conclusion of the Asia Cup 2023, Rohit Sharma’s India will take on Australia in the upcoming three-match home ODI series; the series will commence with the first ODI on September 22 at the PCA IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. It will be the last bilateral assignment for India before the home World Cup.
Coming back to Virat Kohli, the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 could be a very important point of his career as fans and experts are speculating that it might be his last appearance in the ODI World Cup for India.
