The only person who disagreed with the Cricket Governing Body's decision of the Indore pitch was legendary Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar. Australia won the match by nine wickets after only seven sessions. The track received three penalty points for being a "poor" track.

Gavaskar responded by recalling the Gabba field, where an Australia-South Africa match lasted just two days. But before making a bold forecast about the fourth Test match scheduled to be played in Ahmedabad next week, the former India cricketer made an unexpected U-turn on his declaration.

However, Gavaskar acknowledged that Indore-style pitches are not a good concept since they eliminate the competition between the bat and ball.

"I think there has to be a little more thought on that. This pitch backfired in 2012-13 when Graeme Swann and Monty Panesar spun England to a win. I don’t think it’s a great idea to have pitches of this quality," Gavaskar told India Today.

"You want to have pitches where there is a good balance between bat and ball. You want to have a pitch where for the first couple of days, the new-ball bowlers can get some help and the batters can play through the line and score runs. And then from Day 3 and 4, the ball is going to turn a little bit." he added.

Gavaskar believes that if the fourth and final Test match in Ahmedabad is another roaring turner, India will recover and win the trophy and a spot in the WTC final, but at the expense of receiving demerit points.

"I don’t know what’s going to happen in Ahmedabad. If the pitch in Ahmedabad is a raging turner, then India might go on to win but once again the pitch might get demerit points.", he said.

The Gujarat Cricket Association is attempting to create a "regular track" in order to prevent controversy like Indore, according to a report in PTI. The Gujarat Cricket Association has not received any instructions from the Indian side on the track for the fourth Test.
