The highly anticipated ODI World Cup 2023 in India is just two months away. The marquee international tournament is set to kick off with the inaugural match between England and New Zealand on the 5th of October at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Meanwhile, the former cricketers and experts of the game have started making their predictions about the 13th edition of the World Cup.
Meanwhile, the former legendary Australian pacer Glenn McGrath has also come up with his prediction about the top 4 teams for the semi-finals. Apart from that, he also talked about the arch-rivals India and Pakistan doing well as the tournament will be played in the sub-continent conditions.
India is playing in their own conditions: Glenn McGrath
“You wouldn’t be surprised that I’m putting Australia in that four. Obviously, India are playing in their own conditions. England is playing some great cricket and Pakistan is also playing fine. So, they are the best four,” said McGrath to the Times of India.
Apart from McGrath’s prediction, the former England skipper Eoin Morgan also spoke about the favourites of the tournament. He went on to put England and India at the top of the list of favourites to win the World Cup.
“When it comes to the business end of the tournament, I have no doubt England will be there, I have no doubt India will be there. And the other teams I would probably see potentially lifting the trophy are Australia and Pakistan, two very very strong teams, and two contenders when it comes to big competitions,” said Morgan to WION.
Amidst all this, the media reports have also learned that the schedule of the tournament is likely to change as the Indian Cricket Board and Cricket’s governing body. Jay Shah also spoke about the changes in the schedule of the tournament.
“As far as possible, we are looking at not changing the venue as well as the matches. Not changing the venue is very important. Teams which have six-day gaps between matches, we are trying to reduce it to four-five days; and those that have just two-day gaps, we are trying to increase to three days,” said Jay Shah.
