Bangladesh have been a commendable force in the world of Cricket for a long time. Several players like Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahman, and Tamim Iqbal have looked to do well while representing this country in recent years.  However, still, Bangladesh have failed to deliver consistent performance against top teams of the game.

But, there are several incidents where this team have been found insulting other teams. Such actions from the team and fans have created a negative impact on global cricket fans. In order to become aggressive on the field, sometimes this team have crossed the limit. Hence, fans have found such actions unnecessary at times.

Here are five instances when Bangladesh crossed the lines against other teams

Build-up post before the warm-up match against South Africa, 2022

This controversial incident took place before the warm-up match against South Africa in the 20-20 World Cup 2022. Bangla Tigers represent Bangladesh Cricket in Abu Dhabi T10 League. Before the match, they shared an image regarding the match on their social media which didn’t go down well with the fans.

In the image, they kept the size of the Bangladesh Captain much larger than that of South African captain Temba Bavuma. It seemed that they tried to point out that South Africa are quite weaker than their country in the match. So, fans became very angry after seeing that post went viral on social media platforms.

During the U-19 World Cup final in 2020, India took on Bangladesh in South Africa. However, they managed to create history by defeating the young Men in Blue by three wickets. But, after the win, both teams got involved in a heated exchange. Rakibul Hasan hit the winning runs for Bangladesh.

Then, the entire Bangladesh camp came running onto the field. But, some offensive thing was told to Indian players which created all such chaos among those players. Speaking about the incident, the Indian captain Priyam Garg termed it as ‘dirty’. On the other hand, Bangladesh's skipper stated that the incident should not have happened and apologized to the Indian team.

In 2018, India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka played a tri-series which is named Nidahas Trophy. Both India and Bangladesh played in the final. However, the Men in Blue won the tournament after a fantastic and epic finish from Dinesh Karthik. But, this “Naagin” dance went viral during a match against Sri Lanka in the tournament. Speaking of the match, Mushfiqur Rahim was batting in the last over of the match. 

On the second delivery, he got out. It was a second straight short ball. But the on-field umpires deemed it a legal delivery and not a no-ball. Skipper Shakib Al Hasan was not happy along with others with the call as he asked his batters in the middle to leave the ground. But, the match happened and Bangladesh won the match. After that, they came up with their famous “Naagin” dance.

This controversy happened after India’s exit from the 20-20 World Cup in 2016. India lost against the eventual winner, West Indies in the semi-final. However, in the group stage, India defeated Bangladesh in a very close game. Mushfiqur Rahim was batting when they needed two runs off three balls.

But, they lost three wickets in those balls as India won the match by one run. But, after India's exit from the semi-final, Rahim tweeted: “Happiness is this… Now I can sleep much better. Windies u beauty!!!.” He also shared a picture of himself alongside a TV set with MS Dhoni speaking during the post-match presentation.

During the Asia Cup in 2016, India qualified for the final along with Bangladesh. However, before the final, a morphed image of MS Dhoni got viral on social media. The image showed Bangladesh’s Taskin Ahmed holding MS Dhoni’s head. Indian fans found it insulting as they raised their voice on social media platforms.

Regarding the same matter, then-India coach Ravi Shastri said: “It’s not our job to look at newspapers, our job is to play cricket. It’s your job to find out what stories are getting published in the dailies. When we play cricket, we do not concentrate on newspaper articles. So you all can make your own assessments by reading those stories.”
