MS Dhoni's decision to step down as Chennai's captain took the world by storm. Barely a few days before the commencement of the Indian T20 league 2022, the legend announced his decision to hand over the leadership of the franchise to Ravindra Jadeja. It is to be noted that Dhoni is one of the most successful captains in the history of the league.
Under his leadership, Chennai won four titles. Moreover, he led the yellow army to the top four in every season barring the one in 2020. South African legend AB de Villiers recently gave his opinion on the same.
He backed Dhoni's decision, and felt that it was the right move. The "Mr 360°" drew light on how difficult it is to carry the burden of leading a side for so long. The Indian legend led Chennai for as many as 13 editions.
“I am not surprised by Dhoni's move. I am actually quite happy for him. Having carried that burden for so long, people might think that it is easy to be captain, but it really wears you down. You have sleepless nights sometimes, especially when you don’t have good seasons. But I think he stepped away at exactly the right time, having won the last Indian T20 league," AB de Villiers said on VUSports.
As far as the Proteas legend is concerned, then he had announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in 2021, as he had earlier retired from international cricket in 2018. De Villiers is arguably one of the greatest players in the Indian T20 league, and has played many matches against Dhoni. He also expressed his excitement to watch the "Thala" enjoy his game.
“I am excited to watch MS just enjoy himself, to hit those big sixes again. Not to think too much about strategies and having to monitor guys. He can just go out there and hit sixes and entertain the entire world with what he does best, and that is to play cricket and win games," he added.
