Real reason behind MS Dhoni quitting Chennai's captaincy revealed

MS Dhoni's decision to step down as Chennai's captain took the world by storm. Not many people expected to legend to quit captaincy of the yellow army and that too barely a few days before the commencement of the 15th edition of the Indian T20 league. It was announced that Ravindra Jadeja will be the new captain of the franchise.

Thus, Dhoni decided to pass on the leadership responsibilities to the all-rounder. According to a report by Sports Tiger, even Chennai's CEO Kasi Vishwanath was shocked when Dhoni spoke about his decision to step down as Chennai's captain. The keeper-batter apparently told him that he is 40-year-old and couldn't continue to lead the franchise forever.

He assured the franchise's CEO that he would guide Jadeja. While Dhoni's decision came as a shock, the franchise accepted the call gracefully. “The management always backed him; why will it not back him now,” said a source.

Speaking about naming Jadeja as the new skipper, the management was keeping a close eye on the left-hander's performance during the series against Sri Lanka, where he didn't disappoint. Thus, the management was happy to give the leadership duties to Jadeja.

Meanwhile, in the case of Dhoni, he will be playing only as a player for the first time since the 2017 edition, where he played for the now-defunct Pune. However, his fans would hope that they see the Dhoni of old. The last two editions haven't really been great for Dhoni with the bat and thus, he would want to get things right this time around. Without the captaincy burden, one can expect him to be at his absolute best.
