Match 28 of The Hundred was a one-sided affair, with Birmingham Phoenix and Manchester Originals crossing swords, and it was the latter who reigned over the former. Both the teams came into the match with the hope of clinching the crucial two points that might keep them in the race for the top-three position and one of the teams had to face the bitter end while it was all joy for the Originals. The skipper Laurie Evans, well aware of the ground records at Edgbaston stadium, elected to bat first after winning the toss.
Philip Salt, who has been carrying the team on his shoulders, managed to emulate the same yet again as he bagged a crucial fifty for his team with an inning comprising of 2 sixes and 5 fours. Skipper Laurie Evans and Wayne Madsen returned quickly which paved the way for a collapse from the Originals' batters. However, Tom Lammonby prevented it with a quick 26 at the end of the innings and helped the black team put a total of 154.
Having played some decent games right from the start, the Phoenix openers were expected to get off to a flyer. Instead, it backfired with Miles Hammond failing to kick off from the start. Will Smeed looked helpless once he lost their skipper Moeen Ali and trusted player Chris Benjamin as the opener played a loose shot and succumbed to pressure. Nothing really went right for the Phoenix who tried their best to get out of the hiccups but all credit to the Originals bowler Tom Hartley, who picked up a four-for to keep things going for the Originals.
Manchester Originals thumped and humiliated Birmingham Phoenix after bowling out them for just 75 runs to register the lowest ever innings total in the Men's Hundred. A shocking performance from the Phoenix batters resulted in angry tweets from their fans who wanted their team to do well in the ongoing season.

So Birmingham Phoenix home matches end in defeat, but at least Kane Richardson became the top wicket taker in #TheHundred. It's not every year that your favourite Australian bowler signs for Birmingham, and it was a privilege to see 7 of his wickets at @Edgbaston this season ๐งก๐ pic.twitter.com/84r7YTSXMo

First time watching cricket, was as one sided as you can get ๐ #thehundred

#ManchesterOriginals were on top form tonight, but #BirminghamPhoenix were really not at the races. Aside from an encouraging, but all-too brief, batting partnership between Smeed & Benjamin, it just didnโt click tonight for Phoenix. #TheHundred https://t.co/dV8Zk1AWaX

Just abysmal. #BirminghamPhoenix with the worst ever score in #TheHundred. The Originals looking very strong

That was excellent. I didn't think they'd scored enough runs, but that was a great bowling performance. #TheHundred #ManchesterOriginals

Problem with #ThePhoenix is, with the bat, if Ali & Livingstone don't perform then that's pretty much game over. Embarrassing that tonight ๐ฌ #TheHundred
