Team India are currently busy playing the ongoing three-match ODI series in Bangladesh. Followed by this series, they will also play a two-match Test series in Bangladesh. However, team India suffered a huge blow as their skipper Rohit Sharma got injured during the second ODI on 7 December.
After the match, Rahul Dravid said: “Rohit will fly back to Bombay, consult with an expert to see how it is, and confirm whether he can come back for the Test series or not. It is too early to say anything but he will be out for the next match for sure.” So, now, if Rohit Sharma failed to come back for the Test series, then team India need to look for some players to replace him as the opener.
Here are three players who can replace Rohit Sharma as an opener in the upcoming Bangladesh Test series
Mayank Agarwal
This batter played his last Test match against Sri Lanka in Bengaluru on 12 March 2022. As of now, Mayank Agarwal has played 21 Tests where he has scored 1488 runs at an average of 41.33. He has already played two Test matches against Bangladesh. In those matches, Agarwal scored 257 runs at an average of 128.50.
So, if Rohit Sharma fails to receive in time from the injury, then, this batter can be a worthy replacement in the team. However, recently, he got released by the Punjab franchise despite being their captain last year in the Indian T20 League. So, it will be a massive boost for him if he gets a chance in this upcoming Test series.
Abhimanyu Easwaran
This batter can be another option for team India to replace Rohit Sharma in the test series as the opener. Recently, Abhimanyu Easwaran has shown great form with the bat. Currently, he is busy leading the India A side in a test series against Bangladesh A in Bangladesh. In the first unofficial Test, he scored 141 runs off 255 balls, including 11 fours and one six.
Then, in the second unofficial Test, he again scored 157 runs off 248 balls, including 14 fours and two sixes. So, his current form can attract the eyes of the Indian team management to consider him for the upcoming Test series. He is already in Bangladesh and therefore, he will be well suited to the pitches that other.
Yashasvi Jaiswal
This youngster has made headlines in recent times. Currently, Yashasvi Jaiswal is busy playing the ongoing Test series between India A vs Bangladesh A. In the first unofficial Test, Jaiswal scored 146 runs off 226 balls, including 20 fours and one six. In the recently concluded Duleep Trophy final, he scored a brilliant double hundred for the West Zone.
He scored 265 runs off 323 balls in the second innings. Jaiswal won the player of the match award for that match-winning knock. So, Rohit Sharma’s absence can be a great opportunity for Jaiswal to get into the team. He can be a great option as an opener for India in this upcoming Test series in Bangladesh.
