The mini-auction of IPL 2024 is set to be held shortly on Tuesday, December 19 where a total of 333 registered players will go under the hammer. The 10 participating teams will contest to bring the best players in the world on board in their squads for the next edition of the tournament.
Out of the total of 333 players, 119 are capped while 214 are uncapped; the list includes 214 Indian cricketers, including 119 overseas cricketers, having 2 players from the associate nations as well. However, the auction might not go as expected for most of the cricketers.
Look at the 5 capped players who might face rejection or go unsold during the IPL 2024 mini-auction.
1. David Willey
The star England pacer David Willy recently retired from international cricket after the conclusion of the ODI World Cup 2023. He was the second leading wicket-taker for England in the ODI World Cup, scalping 11 wickets in 6 innings of the 6 matches, he played. But considering his age and recent form, teams might not count on him as they’ll be looking ahead to invest in the young talents.
So, the Northampton pacer could be one of the few capped players who might go unsold during the IPL 2024 mini-auction.
2. Dawid Malan
Star England opener Dawid Malan has quite impressive numbers in international cricket, scoring 1892 runs in 60 innings of the 62 matches, with an average of 36.38, hitting a century and 16 half-centuries. But speaking of the IPL, he has played only one match in his IPL career; Malan appeared for the Punjab Kings in the IPL 2021 where he scored 26 runs.
Notably, Malan is already 36 years old in terms of age and most of the teams have secured their opening slots with some youngsters and in-form veteran batters; so, it looks quite hard for Malan to find a buyer in the IPL 2024 mini-auction.
3. Manish Pandey
Indian batter Manish Pandey has featured in 29 ODIs and 39 T20Is so far in his career, where he has quite a bit good batting average of 33.29 in ODIs and 44.31 in T20Is. But, Pandey couldn’t live up to the expectations for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League 2023. He could score only 160 runs in 9 innings of the 10 matches, he played with a below-par average of 17.78, having only one half-century with the bat.
Later, Capitals happened to release the 34-year-old ahead of the IPL 2024 mini-auction; now, he is registered for the auction with a base price of INR 50 lakh but the teams might not be interested in picking up Pandey owing to his current form concerns and struggle with the bat.
5. Kedar Jadhav
The veteran Indian batter was called up by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the middle of the Indian Premier League due to an injury-hit they faced. He played in 2 matches and got a chance to bat in 1 innings, and could score only 12 runs. Later, RCB released him ahead of the auction for the next edition.
In a shocking piece of news for fans, Kedar Jadhav set his base price of INR 2 crores for the mini-auction. Considering his long-time disconnection from cricket, the franchises might not be interested in him for the next season.
6. Rilee Rossouw
The Proteas batter Rilee Rossouw was a part of the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League 2023; he batted in 9 innings of the 9 matches, he played for Delhi in the tournament; however, Rilee Rossouw failed to live up to his stature and could score 209 runs with a not-so-impressive average of 29.86, including one half-century.
Furthermore, Delhi Capitals released him ahead of the IPL 2024 auction; now, the 34-year-old is registered for the auction for the next edition at a base price of INR 2 crores.
