Amazon signs new deal for broadcasting in Australia for multi-nation tournaments

In a recent piece of news, the renowned e-commerce company Amazon’s subsidiary for content streaming Prime Video has finalized a deal with Cricket’s Governing Body for live streaming in Australia for all major international tournaments under the banner of Cricket’s Governing Body. Prime Video has signed for the broadcasting rights from 2024 to 2027.

It will include 448 games to be streamed live, including the likes of Men’s and Women’s Cricket World Cups, T20 World Cups, Champions Trophy, U19 international tournaments and the final of the World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle.

The deal between Cricket’s Governing body and Amazon Prime Video became possible after a successful broadcast of the recently concluded ODI World Cup 2023, which was played in India. The tournament also registered a record viewership both from in the stadium and through the live broadcast.

Following the deal, the CEO of Cricket’s Governing Body, Geoff Allardice came up with a statement in which he expressed his excitement on this deal with the Prime Video.

“We are very excited to be entering a new four-year partnership with Prime Video for international tournament rights in Australia. The recently concluded Men’s Cricket World Cup has highlighted the interest and passion for multi-nation events across the globe, especially in Australia, where cricket fans have enjoyed the recent success of their men’s and women’s teams. We look forward to working with Prime Video Australia to provide innovative coverage of world-class cricket to more fans in Australia,” said Allardice in an official statement.

Apart from Allardice, the head of Prime Video Australia and New Zealand, Hushidar Kharas also came up with a statement on the extension of the partnership with Cricket’s Governing Body.

“Prime Video has worked to create a single destination for audiences to find new movies, live sports, and their favourite TV shows. We are always looking for ways to deliver more value to our customers, and live sports are consistently one of their top requests. We are thrilled to be able to offer our customers the live broadcast of the Cricket World Cup included in their Prime membership!” said Hushidar Kharas.
