Cristiano Ronaldo or Virat Kohli? Google reveals 'most searched athlete' in 25-year-long history of search engine

Recently, the renowned search engine Google came up with a special mention of former Indian skipper Virat Kohli and the veteran Portuguese football international, Cristiano Ronaldo. Google named both sporting giants together while revealing the list of most search trends in its 25-year-long history.

Both Kohli and Ronaldo made it to the headlines for their stellar achievements in their respective fields, cricket and football. The former Manchester centre-forward switched his club from United to start his stint with the famous Saudi Arabia club Al-Nassr FC.

Since the start of his stint with Al-Nassr FC, Ronaldo has impressed his fans with continuous stunning performances, dominating the Saudi Pro League. He scored the 50th goal of his appearance in the 2023 season. The 38-year-old achieved this feat in the match against Al Shabab during the Saudi King Cup.

Coming back to Google’s post on ‘most searched topics’ in last 25 years since the inception of the search engine.

“If the last 25 years have taught us anything, the next 25 will change everything. Here’s to the most searched moments of all time. #YearInSearch,” read the caption of the video posted by Google at the official X handle (formerly Twitter).

In this video, Google revealed that Ronaldo has been the ‘most searched athlete’ while the former Indian skipper and the modern-day batting great, Virat Kohli is the ‘most searched cricketer’ in the last 25 years specifically in the last year.

Speaking of Virat Kohli, he broke a couple of world records during his appearance for India in the recently concluded ODI World Cup 2023. He ended up as the leading run-scorer in the tournament, scoring 765 runs in 11 innings of the 11 matches, he played for India, hitting 3 centuries and 6 half-centuries for India. Notably, it was the highest-ever score achieved by any batter in a single edition of an ODI World Cup.

Apart from this, Kohli also broke former legendary Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar’s world record of 49 ODI centuries, with his 50th century, which came against New Zealand in the first semi-final of the ODI World Cup 2023.
